Medical fills tech void at Ogilvy PR

CHICAGO: Despite company-wide layoffs, Ogilvy PR's new-business

machine is still turning, with healthcare offering the biggest ray of

hope.

Ogilvy Chicago has been named agency of record for the University of

Illinois' Chicago (UIC) Medical Center. Sources said the account is in

the high six-figure range, and Brad Wilks, the office's MD, said it will

be among the agency's top five. 'This is an important win for us. It

really validates our move into healthcare and medical PR in this

marketplace,' he said.

The UIC Medical Center hadn't used an outside firm for some time but

decided this time to get advice on marketing itself to consumers,

physicians and other audiences, said Mark Rosati, director of public

affairs.

Ogilvy Chicago is also said to be in line for some major work from Blue

Cross/Blue Shield. While Wilks wouldn't comment on the reports, Teri

Vlasac, director of corporate media relations at Blue Cross, denied her

company had hired Ogilvy Chicago as its agency of record. 'We just hired

them to do project work,' she said.

With technology business down in the Midwest as elsewhere in the US,

some agencies are looking to healthcare to pick up the business slack.
