Gateway's No. 2 PR man joins Stoorza as part of restructured team

SAN DIEGO: Gateway's number-two PR executive, John Spelich, has

signed with San Diego-based Stoorza Communications as an EVP overseeing

the firm's PR practice.

Most recently director of investor communications at Gateway, Spelich

worked for the San Diego-based PC maker for the past two years and

reported directly to VP of corporate communications Brad Shaw. The

search for a replacement for Spelich, who oversaw both internal PR and

IR, is now under way.

'Gateway is a great company, but I had never worked for an agency

before, so this represented an exciting new challenge for me in my

communications career,' explained Spelich. 'Plus, Stoorza is a great

brand with a great reputation in this town.'

Prior to Gateway, Spelich spent nearly 11 years with the Ford Motor

Company in various assignments including director of Ford's Asian PR,

director of corporate communications and as an attorney in the Office of

the General Counsel. Before that, he worked as a reporter for

publications such as the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Detroit Free

Press.

In the new post, Spelich will work alongside recently appointed Stoorza

president Patrick O'Reilly (PRWeek, April 2), who leads the agency's

public affairs practice. Both are new positions reporting to chairman

and CEO Gail Stoorza-Gill.

The addition of O'Reilly and Spelich highlights the recent restructuring

of Stoorza since the departure of president and CEO David De Pinto two

weeks ago.

'The new structure represents a way to streamline and simplify our

operations to ensure a quality of service across all the offices and

different practice areas,' said Stoorza-Gill.
