INTERNATIONAL NEWS: APCO hires former chief spokesperson under Renofor strategy post

WASHINGTON: APCO Worldwide has brought another ex-politico into its

ranks, pulling Myron Marlin aboard from the Department of Justice

(DoJ).

Marlin spent eight years at the DoJ under Attorney General Janet Reno,

most recently as director of communications and chief spokesperson.

Before that he was a spokesperson for the department's civil rights

division.

In those eight years, Marlin faced the press for news events ranging

from church arson to the millennium terrorist crisis, Elian Gonzalez and

the Microsoft case. And it was Marlin who persuaded Reno to conclude her

tenure with an appearance on Saturday Night Live alongside Will Ferrell,

the male comedian who made headlines with a ruthless impersonation of

the attorney general.

Marlin will serve as VP and senior strategist at APCO. He said he will

be doing work similar to what he handled at the DoJ, including crisis

communications, litigation, corporate restructuring, and mergers and

acquisitions.

Reno told PRWeek, 'As the head of my public affairs office, I just had

the greatest confidence in Marlin to report the truth to those who asked

for it, to get to the bottom of things and to understand complex

litigation. But most of all I think he is extremely reliable in his

reporting and in the way he works.'
