TROY, MI: Kmart has picked up a new VP of communications in veteran
DaimlerChrysler PR person Lori McTavish, but lost its chief marketing
officer, Brett Willis, after just four months.
McTavish will oversee internal and external communications, community
affairs and public policy.
Willis, hired late last year as CMO, quit for personal reasons. He was
brought on board by Kmart CEO Chuck Conaway to rejuvenate marketing
efforts and was behind the recent rebirth of the Kmart Blue Light
Special. Willis had reported directly to Kmart's president/COO, who will
now oversee marketing.
McTavish's new duties will be comparable to those of Shawn Kahle,
longtime Kmart VP of corporate affairs, who lost her job last year as
part of a reorganization that occurred when Willis arrived (PRWeek,
December 18, 2000).
McTavish most recently served as senior manager, corporate media
relations for DaimlerChrysler. Her departure is another blow to the auto
maker's communications department that already had been hurt by multiple
defections since the merger.
