Mitsubishi is advertising for a senior media relations manager.
Along with the usual requirements for the position (degree, 15 years'
experience, moderate PC skills, Web-savvy, etc.) there's this stopper:
'Must have valid driver's license and company-approved driving
Don't laugh. Some years ago Ford Motor hired a highly recommended PR
staffer for a position in its Chicago regional PR office - which, among
other responsibilities, required some shuffling around of media
test-drive vehicles - and never thought to ask. You guessed it: she
didn't know how to drive.
Having said that, you don't see many ads for basic healthcare PR jobs
demanding that applicants be well-versed in the finer points of brain
surgery, now, do you?
