Here's an edifying tale that goes to show that you can get just as
much PR when no one can see your client as when they're plastered all
over the place.
Since May 1, more than 1,500 New York Mets posters promoting baseball
games on Fox TV's Sports Net have been nicked from their frames in
subway cars. The Mets, who spent dollars 300,000 on 4,000 posters which
have been disappearing at a rate of 160 posters per day, have asked New
York's Metropolitan Transit Authority to keep watch to ensure the
remaining posters won't end up in bedrooms and dorm rooms.
When confronted by the New York Post, the marketing firm for the Mets
spun the loss rather well, commenting that it was 'taking some pride' in
the fact that fans are so fond of the posters they feel the need to
bring them home. How generous! What else can we steal? Say - those bases
would look really great in the frat house!
