Masters of disaster set to help Gray's PR

LOS ANGELES: They have been called the "masters of disaster" based

on their work for Bill Clinton and Al Gore, and now political

communications operatives Mark Fabiani and Chris Lehane have another

opportunity to put that reputation to a test. Gov. Gray Davis (D-CA) has

hired the duo to help oversee his PR during a trying time.

Already there's a fight. GOP leaders have objected that the duo had done

contract work for Southern California Edison, and that the state's

current efforts to help save the company from financial woes is a

conflict of interest.

Countered Lehane: "If these Republicans really cared, they'd write a

letter to President Bush asking him to stop these out-of-state energy

generators (who are charging California high prices for energy)."

Fabiani, a former Clinton White House aide who dealt with the myriad

legal problems of the president, and his then-deputy, Lehane, worked

together on the Gore campaign.

Asked what the "masters" are up to, Lehane said, "Stay tuned."
