Joe Public Relations lures NHL comms head for development role

NEW YORK: Joe Public Relations (JPR) has hired the National Hockey

League's former director of communications as VP of business development

for North America.

John Krisiukenas will join JPR's small New York team, which includes SVP

Siobhan Aalders. The agency opened its New York office last November. It

is part of the OneMonday Group, which also houses tech specialist Text

Krisiukenas started his career in PR as an intern at Burson-Marsteller

in 1988.

He later worked for Cohn & Wolfe and Alan Taylor Communications,

focusing on consumer products and sports marketing.

He took time out from PR to pursue a Ph.D at New York University, but

soon returned to the profession as director of new business at Jericho

Communications, running sports marketing.

Krisiukenas then moved to Singapore, where he ran his own consultancy

called JCK Communications and also became an on-air sports and

event-marketing analyst for CNBC Asia.

Returning to the US two years ago, he took the job at the NHL, but

decided to switch back to his strength of business development.

Now at JPR, Krisiukenas will focus primarily on winning consumer brand

accounts. "I like to go for the irreverent brands," he said. "It's never

been my style to focus on the leaders in the industry. I want to make a

new brand the leader in the industry."
