LAST CALL: Kathie Lee apology strikes a bum note

Celebrity gaffe, Part II: Kathie Lee Gifford's fans have long grown

accustomed to her big mouth, showcased nicely during her noisy stint on

Live with Regis and Kathie Lee and her many musical renderings.

But it seems Gifford went a tad too far during a Today show interview,

according to Jeannette Walls' column, The Scoop, on MSNBC.

Gifford compared her grief over never winning an Emmy Award to the pain

of miscarriage. Oops. The remark did not go over terribly well with her

fan base, and Gifford was obliged to post an apology on her Web site,

"I've heard from several of you that you were upset by my comment on

Today about not winning an Emmy all those years," Gifford said in a


"It breaks my heart to think that something I said in a casual way could

cause pain in people who are already experiencing pain in their lives

due to the loss of a child." Gifford went on to say that she had

suffered two miscarriages herself and should have been more


Still, Gifford could not resist a little plug. "I wrote Every Day I Like

You More for my friend, Rebecca, who recently lost a child," she


"It has helped her in healing and I hope it does in yours as well."
