Barbie doll - is all glammed up as usual, but this time, America's
plastic sweetheart is dressed as some of America's more esteemed
The Barbie as First Lady tour represents women with clear goals, not
just clear skin. Barbie is dressed as Eleanor Roosevelt, Nancy Reagan,
Mary Todd Lincoln, Laura Bush (pictured right), and Hillary Clinton.
Yes, that's right. First Lady Barbie just might be headed to a shopping
mall near you.
Making stops in Texas, New York, and California, the 46-doll summer tour
is touted as a celebration of patriotism. So far, the tour has received
contributions from the likes of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential
Center and the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace, among others.
So let's get this straight: Barbie is being showcased as an arm piece to
more successful men, and she's still capitalizing on her clothes, not
portraying the idea to young girls that women can be more than an
Hmmm. We're not sure that Sen. Hillary Clinton would be pleased at the
thought of having a Barbie doll modeled after her - especially
considering that she's already had one too many Kens in her life.
