ATLANTA: Shirley Powell is leaving the top publicity slot at NBC
Entertainment to return to her old stomping ground, Turner Broadcasting,
now owned by AOL Time Warner.
As the SVP of publicity at Turner Entertainment Networks, Powell will
oversee the Turner Entertainment, TNT, Cartoon Network, TBS, Turner
South, and Boomerang brands. According to staff members, the SVP post
has been vacant for a number of years.
Powell's two years at NBC were spent overseeing the Television Critics
Association press tour and unveiling new shows to advertisers during the
"up-front" season. Powell was lured to NBC by entertainment president
Scott Sassa, a former Turner colleague. She joined NBC from Disney
Channel in April 1999.
Separately, AOL Time Warner last week confirmed the creation of an
investment fund for businesses owned or managed by minorities and women.
The Opportunity Investment Fund will invest around dollars 100 million
over a three-year period.
