As director of college communications at Malone College in Ohio, I
am always looking for ways to build relationships with our local and
regional media. So I was delighted when a popular radio station in town
began having guest co-hosts on Fridays. Anyone willing to rise early
enough could have the microphone for several hours and shamelessly plug
It was October 20 - my wedding anniversary - so besides using the
airwaves to promote upcoming Malone events, I was able to wish my
husband a happy 20th anniversary on the air. I was invited back in
January. The day was typical of Ohio winters. The kind of "snow day"
morning for which children and teachers pray. I have to admit that I got
a vicarious thrill out of announcing that long list of school closings.
But the icing on the cake came after we signed off. The program director
invited me to be a permanent fixture!
After assuring that the partnership would not hinder the college's
relationships with other radio stations, I became the official co-host
of The Morning Show on 95.9 WNPQ-FM and am living every PR exec's dream
of having a microphone for two to three hours every day!
