Fortune fills No. 2 spot with Welch

NEW YORK: Fortune's PR team is firing on all cylinders again after

the arrival of Carrie Welch as director of communications.

Welch, who previously worked at lifestyle title Real Simple, will team

up with vice president of communications Terry McDevitt, and replaces

Nyssa Tussing, who left last year. Her appointment is well timed, since

Fortune has new managing editor Rik Kirkland.

Welch said, "They've been understaffed a bit with all the changes. We're

planning a big push. We'd like to get the new editor out there."

Welch is gearing up to promote two upcoming special issues: the top 40

under-40 businesspeople in the US (September 10 issue), and the 50 most

powerful women in business (October 8 issue).

Welch has a long history with Time Inc. She joined as a picture

researcher for Time magazine, and later worked in London as the first

communications director for Time Atlantic.
