KINGSPORT, TN: After five years of project work, Pittsburgh agency
Skutski & Oltmanns (S&O) has beaten out four other agencies to become
agency of record for the glass manufacturing giant, AFG Industries. AFG
will be a top-five client for the 20-person agency.
Betsy Pardue, director of e-business and corporate communications for
AFG, said the company needed an agency of record to relieve its
overworked in-house marketing team of eight. The company had not hired
new staffers despite adding staff responsibilities, including
e-business. Pardue admitted that overwork led to hurriedly-written,
muddled PR messages.
She said AFG will look to S&O to help it forge a consistent corporate
identity across constituencies including the trade press, advertising,
corporate literature and the company's electronic presence.
AFG will still use other agencies for project work, including
Pardue said the company chose S&O because the company had appeared to do
its research. "Their presentation covered a broad range of touchpoints
with the customers and prospective customers and the glass industry in
general," she said. "They also had acquired a substantial amount of
knowledge about our industry and were able to indicate some of that
knowledge, as well as their understanding of the competitive nature of
