Edelman retains role as agency for $1.4m-a-year IllinoisDCCA account

SPRINGFIELD, IL: After a protracted pitch process, the Illinois

Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) is on the brink of

naming Edelman Public Relations as its agency of record for a $1.4 million-a-year assignment.

Official word of the decision isn't likely until mid-August, two months

later than originally planned, as the final details of Edelman's

assignment are worked out.

Porter Novelli was the other finalist for the work. Earlier on in the

process, the department had also spoken with Fleishman-Hillard and

Burson-Marsteller. Edelman was the incumbent agency but the commerce

department is required by law to seek new bidders for the work every

three years.

In the past, most PR done for the department has been tourism-related,

but the new agency will be asked to execute work on broader economic

development issues. The state is hoping to build on the momentum gained

by the recent luring of Boeing to Chicago, seeking out other companies

that might consider moving to Illinois. Edelman also handled PR for

Boeing's Chicago press conference announcing its decision and has

handled all or parts of the commerce department's PR business for the

past six years.
