Mexico seeks PR to boost tourism

MEXICO CITY: With President Vicente Fox in the White House last

week, Mexico couldn't have been more front of stage. In order to keep

the spotlight on both the country and its capital, Mexico City, each

place is hiring PR agencies.

The Mexico Tourism Board is now searching for an agency to handle a

$3.3 million (31 million peso) account to promote the country in

the US. Mexico is the US' largest trading partner.

The tourism board has already issued an RFP, and Fleishman-Hillard is

believed to be among the agencies pitching. The contract is expected to

run from October 2001 to December 2002. Fleishman has previously handled

Mexico's account for Europe and Latin America.

Separately, Mexico City has just renewed business with KWE Associates on

a project basis. The agency will represent the country in the US and

Canada. Agency sources speculate that the Mexico City Tourism Board will

be looking for a global agency next year.
