It didn't take the members of the New York chapter of the PRSA long
to decide what to do about its planned back-to-work party for September
25.
Yes, they could have canceled it, figuring no one really felt like
having fun. But that would have been a waste of the spirit that has
surged through New York's PR industry since the tragic events of
September 11, thought president Bob Weintraub.
Instead, a benefit at hip midtown bar Chinawhite was thrown together,
underwritten by VMS and Burrelle's, with bulging bags of raffle prizes
donated by all comers.
While the evening was a chance to remember the city's lost, the
atmosphere was one of great optimism - helped greatly by the knowledge
that the New York Police & Fire Widows & Children's Benefit Fund was
$3,235 better off by night's end.
(The fact that a certain PRWeek hack's friend won the silent auction for
an all-expenses-paid trip to Barbados, and has pledged to take said
hack, has absolutely nothing to do with the enjoyment, of course.)
