NEW YORK: Job security is a bigger concern to employees than
personal security, suggests new research from the Council of PR
Firms.
Council president Jack Bergen said findings show the increasing
importance and sensitivity of internal communications, and encourage
companies to ramp up these efforts.
The survey of 1,013 employees nationwide found that 36% were concerned
about being laid off or their company going out of business, more than
twice the 16% who were anxious about their physical security at
work.
In evaluating communications since September 11, 59% rated their
companies' communications to them about worker fears, concerns, and
business outlook as excellent or good. However, 31% rated it fair or
poor, and 7% said there had been no communication at all.
Bergen credited companies with stepping up communications with workers
since September 11, and for creating dialogue with a new tone of
openness and sensitivity.
