CORPUS CHRISTI, TX: The Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA)
has created a special category in its annual awards program for PR
projects related to the September 11 tragedy.
The Silver Spur/Best of Texas competition will pick the state's best
patriotic or relief campaign. The winner will be announced during the
TPRA's March conference in Austin.
"Many Texas PR professionals have implemented a wide array of programs
benefiting our heroes and their families," said TPRA president Sherry
McDonnell. "We felt that our organization needed to recognize our fellow
PR professionals for their heartfelt efforts to ease our nation's
burden."
Since many campaigns were put together very quickly, they lack the
planning and research usually required by such competitions, said former
president Julie Fix. Therefore, the TPRA streamlined its rules for the
special category, requiring only descriptions of what was done and why,
as well as project results.
PRSA chapters in Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, and San Antonio are
cosponsoring the awards program. January 31 is the entry deadline, and
more details are available at www.tpra.com.
