How long have you been in your job? Eight months.
Describe the space you work in. I work in an office full of history and
character, located in the historical Beacon Hill of Boston. It is an old
church renovated to fit several offices. We work in what we like to call
"igloos," and there are three of them that have huge archways for
entrances. My desk is actually an old door painted white. I sit near the
church bell, which is five times the size of me.
Do you socialize with your colleagues? We are a very close-knit family
styled office. We sit so close and hear everything, so it's kind of hard
not to socialize with them. You would think that spending eight hours of
our day together would be enough, but we are known to hang out after
work.
How often do you see the boss? Every minute of every day.
Who is the craziest person you work with? It has to be my boss Ed
Cafasso. Crazy does not explain it. "Maniac" might be a better word.
Around here, we call him "Eddie Blade," "Eddie The Crime Family
Cafasso," or "Eddie Soprano."
How often are you still there when the cleaners come round? Quite often.
I leave my shoes here under my desk. Since I walk to work, I usually
have my sneakers on when I first get in, and then make the easy
transition of putting on my work shoes. When I first started here, I
left the office early one day only to return the next day to find my
shoes missing. At first, I thought it was simply a new-hire prank, but
now my theory is that the cleaning people took them. So it's just a
motivation to stay later to make sure I see the cleaning people leave
before I do.
What's been your biggest mistake while working there? We have motion
detectors that are set after 6pm, and I have set those off about four
times. I also fell up the stairs here at work ... don't ask.
What is the biggest thing to hit your office in the past year? The
Uncommon Pizza from the Upper Crust that contains a mouth watering
combination of bacon, pineapple, and jalapeno peppers.
