RENTON, WA: Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has picked Glodow Nead
Communications as its agency of record.
The company, a subsidiary of Hasbro, produces the hugely popular Pokemon
trading card game.
In August, Glodow Nead, working on a project basis, helped organize the
global launch of the Harry Potter trading card game.
"Some of our products are difficult to explain to the media, and are
very complex," said Tod Steward, PR group director of WotC. "Glodow Nead
is able to send the right messages to the media."
The Harry Potter launch, which was held in London, attracted huge media
attention. "We confirmed we had 210 TV hits, surpassing any kind of
Pokemon coverage we'd received in the past," Steward said.
The expansion set for the Potter game was released on the same day the
film opened. Steward is also looking to build awareness for the
company's other products, including its NFL and Major League Baseball
trading card games.
Glodow Nead is based in San Francisco, and was also recently retained by
Virgin Mobile for its proposed joint venture with Sprint PCS.
The firm also works with Drugstore.com and Community Coffee.
