In the tradition of kicking PR people when they're down, Forbes.com
has come out with its list of the "Five Thankless Tech Jobs," putting PR
manager for a tech company at the top.
"When a formerly high-flying tech firm shrinks to penny-stock status,
and suddenly no one cares that it's 'an emerging leader' in the
'fast-growing' optical widget space, it's really hard on the firm's
flacks," writes Mark Lewis.
The only solace is that right behind them are tech reporters. "Not long
ago, these scribes were regulars on the cable TV financial networks,"
recalls Lewis. "But nobody is buying those stocks anymore so nobody
wants to hear about the companies."
PRWeek suggests they all drown their sorrows together - and make sure
that Forbes picks up the bill.
