SAN DIEGO: Stoorza Communications has promoted David Hallisey to
SVP in charge of the firm's daily operations, replacing former president
John Spelich.
Hallisey has been with the Southern California firm since 1997, and said
that he expects to take on the title of president in the "near
future."
Stoorza, which was once California's largest independent agency,
currently has 15 employees after weathering a tough year that saw staff
cuts (from a high of about 90), office closures, and the sale of two
satellite offices and the campaign division to ex-Stoorza employees.
"We made some difficult decisions earlier than a lot of other agencies,"
said Hallisey. "We have stabilized. We made the right moves at the right
time."
Spelich, who joined the firm last April from Gateway Computers, left
earlier this month to pursue a position as the executive director of
communications and community relations with the San Diego Unified School
District. "This is really something that is close to my heart," said
Spelich of his new job. "We had a pretty intense year (at Stoorza), and
I feel comfortable leaving given the state the company is in right now."
