SAN FRANCISCO: Oracle's 13th annual OpenWorld event begins this
week with an increased focus on biotechnology and the company's own
intellectual capital.
For the first time, Oracle is focusing on the technology needs of the
biotech sector in a life sciences conference during OpenWorld. Mark
Jarvis, the company's SVP and chief marketing officer, said the sector
is one that has not been targeted in the past.
Oracle is also presenting a panel discussion featuring its top engineers
and architects in a session called, "Meet the Gurus," promising to
reveal some of the idiosyncrasies in product designs.
"After 24 years we have a lot of folklore that has never been public,"
Jarvis said. "These people are the genetic make-up of Oracle."
Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, will conduct a press conference about
OpenWorld on Tuesday, December 4. Registration stands at about 60,000
for the event, an increase of about 5,000 over last year.
