MWW hired in LAX expansion debate

LOS ANGELES: The city of El Segundo, a neighboring suburb of Los

Angeles International Airport (LAX), has hired The MWW Group to handle

media and public affairs in its fight to curb the expansion of LAX.

The city has given MWW a $200,000 annual retainer for a one-year

contract, according to agency SVP and GM Harvey Englander. The account

will be managed by SVP David Herbst, who will report to a committee of

the El Segundo city council.

El Segundo has been in a high-profile fight for a number of years to

stop a massive expansion of LAX - one of the US' largest airports -

proposed by former LA mayor Richard Riordan. LA's new mayor, James Hahn,

scuttled that plan shortly after taking office, but the future of LAX

remains unclear.

MWW hopes to raise El Segundo's profile in both the political

decision-making process and local press coverage.
