University of Maryland named top grad school for PR

MILWAUKEE: The University of Maryland has the best graduate-level

public relations program in the country, according to a new survey of PR

educators.

Syracuse University ranked second and the University of Florida third,

said Bill Baxter, an associate professor emeritus at Marquette

University in Wisconsin. He surveyed directors of 45 PR programs across

the country, and compiled their responses into his newly published

Graduate Study in Public Relations directory.

He asked each of the educators surveyed to name the two schools, other

than their own, that they would recommend to students interested in

earning a graduate degree in PR. Respondents also filled out

questionnaires about their own programs. Information gathered from the

questionnaires, including faculty member bios, are included in the new

directory.

Maryland received 25 votes, Syracuse 23, and Florida 18, so the top

three accounted for 65% of the votes cast, Baxter said.

Georgia ranked fourth, followed by Northwestern and San Diego State,

tied for fifth with four votes each.
