INTERNATIONAL NEWS: Hire signals value of PR to Ask.com

SAN FRANCISCO: Ask Jeeves Web Properties has hired Dotted Line

Communications as its agency of record.

The company is one division of Ask Jeeves, which split into two parts in

2000: Web Properties and Jeeves Solutions.

The company had retained Text 100 for both divisions, until budget cuts

forced an end to the relationship. But as it has lately added a stronger

technology focus to its strategy, Ask Jeeves has seen a role for PR.

"We found we get more for our money with PR than other marketing

disciplines," said Alexa McCann, senior communications manager for Ask

Jeeves. "But we really wanted a small firm that could operate almost as

in-house staff.

The company has three in-house PR staffers for each division.

Dotted Line's initial focus is to help the company communicate the

integration of Teoma search technology, which was recently acquired, and

will be added to the search engine at Ask.com.
