CAREERS: My Big Break

My political science professor in college issued a term project to

volunteer in a presidential campaign and write a paper about it. My

paper only earned me a C in the class, but I was hooked.

I went to summer school and took the same professor's Political Science

II class. It turns out that the professor had gone to college with

Hubert H. Humphrey, and was actively involved in his campaign. Dr.

Schlesinger took me to a meeting of the Humphrey campaign in California,

and I was quickly enticed into becoming a driver in motorcades. Joe

Cerrell, who headed the Humphrey campaign staff, hired me as an office

boy after the campaign ended.

While continuing at school, and eventually graduating from UCLA, I

worked on a variety of political campaigns and public affairs projects.

I left Cerrell as the SVP in 1977. Following that, I spent a couple

years running political campaigns.

Eventually, I opened my own agency in December 1980. In 1994, I sold the

firm to Washington, DC-based Kamber Group. I purchased it back in 1999,

and later that same year my firm was acquired by The MWW Group, where I

presently work.
