Thanks to the efforts of the "Save the Stone Pony

coalition, the venue - which helped launch the careers of both Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi - has been spared from the wrecking ball.

The two-month PR push featured protests, rallies, thousands of petitions and, as The New York Times put it, numerous phone calls from "concerned rockers in every corner of the planet.

The redevelopment project that would have displaced the club has since been revised to allow the Pony to stay put - but only if the ramshackle building is given a facelift.
