DETROIT: Fifteen PR people and writers have decided to form a group to go after business together in the Michigan market.

They've created the Individual Communicators Network (ICN), a nonprofit organization that will let them call on other network members as needed for PR work. Members are agreeing to give 20% of their first three months' revenues to the group to support marketing and operational needs.

Victor Pytko, president of the new group, explained, "All the businesses in Southeast Michigan have been severely hampered by the tough economy."

He explained that it is primarily a media relations market, and independents can charge $125 an hour, while agencies in the market are charging $185-$225 an hour. Pytko said he thinks that will bring business to ICN members.

Before starting his own company, Ramp Public Communications Specialists, Pytko had worked for Hill & Knowlton and Stratacomm in Detroit.
