LAST CALL: Home-based firm is great marriage for PR newlyweds

Helga and Randy West seem to have found happiness, both professionally and personally.

Helga and Randy West seem to have found happiness, both professionally and personally.

Shackled by the bottom-line atmosphere of senior level work at a PR firm, the Wests experienced a twist of fate when Helga lost her job after September 11.

As newlyweds, the Wests already planned to cut back on the 60-70 hours a week they were working to spend more time together. They seized Helga's unemployment opportunity and created Mission Works Communications, a home-based PR firm aimed at serving nonprofits.

Thrilled with the new arrangement, Helga said, "We're getting eight hours of sleep now, which was virtually impossible before."

The couple also plans to start another organization soon - a nonprofit dedicated to victims of violent crimes. Once a victim of violence herself, Helga refers to her new do-good line of work as "soul therapy."

The couple now daydreams about filling the house with lots of little Wests. The brat race sure beats the rat race. Doesn't it?
