CHICAGO: Jayne Thompson, wife of former Illinois governor Jim Thompson, has resigned as GM of Dilenschneider Group's Chicago office to open her own firm, Jayne Thompson & Associates.

Thompson's agency will handle PR and public affairs. She leaves Dilenschneider with a six-month non-compete clause that precludes her from going after Dilenschneider clients.

Dilenschneider does not plan to replace her, said Jonathan Dedmon, a principal in the Chicago office. The agency is committed to remaining in the Windy City, where it has a staff of eight. "We're obviously staying in Chicago and are committed to Chicago,

Demon said.

Thompson joined the agency three years ago, and was promoted to GM in 2000.

She is well known in Illinois legal and political circles. She's served as chief of the criminal appeals division of the Illinois Attorney General's office, and as acting chief of the office's criminal division.

Her husband is now with prestigious law firm Winston & Strawn, and remains connected in political and business circles.

Thompson's arrival was expected to raise Dilenschneider's profile in the Chicago PR market, but the agency has not grown dramatically in size or profile. She came to the firm with no PR background, having last worked for executive search firm DHR International.
