SAN FRANCISCO: Dave Samson has left his position as director of Ketchum's San Francisco office to join Oracle as VP of international PR and executive communications. His appointment is the latest move in Oracle's reorganization.

James Finn, Oracle's recently hired VP of worldwide PR, has been charged with overhauling the global internal team by June 1, the start of the company's new fiscal year. Geduldig & Ferguson has worked with Oracle on the reorganization.

"The seniority Dave will bring to executive communications is very important. It's a sensitive job that requires senior skills,

Finn said. The regional PR heads in Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Canada will report to Samson.

Samson believes his experience in both regional and global roles, both on the agency and the corporate side, have prepared him well for the position.

"Oracle is a very dynamic company,

he said. "The leadership really views PR as a management tool, and understands the value of what we do."

Oracle is still planning to increase its PR head count in the US, and is reviewing agency relationships abroad. "PR21 will continue to be our agency here in the US,

Finn affirmed.

Doug Kinzley, formerly assistant director of Ketchum in San Francisco, has been promoted to director of Bay Area operations. Sean Fitzgerald has been named MD of all the California offices, including Ketchum Sheppard in Glendale, as well as offices in Irvine and Los Angeles.
