Microsoft got caught in a classic "do as we say not as we do" situation last week. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that a Microsoft-funded website was running a Unix operating system as it was discouraging corporate customers from using Unix in favor of its Windows platform.

The website was part of an ad campaign cosponsored by Microsoft and Unisys called "We have the way out.

The campaign looks to dissuade companies from using Unix and its open-source cousin, the Linux operating system. Linux and Unix have emerged as the latest threats to Microsoft's Windows franchise.

Microsoft suffered through a similar embarrassment last year when, after mounting a PR push against open-source software, it was revealed that the company was using such software. Oops.
