NEW YORK: Burson-Marsteller has named Ted Owens as a managing director to lead its investor relations and financial services unit.

Owens previously worked at Thomson Financial, where he was SVP of global consulting.

In his new position, Owens will oversee financial communications and investor-related financial media for transactions and special circumstances, including mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy restructurings, and initial public offerings.

"We feel we have a suite of financial communications capabilities we can offer clients,

Owens said. "Burson has created some pioneering approaches to IR. We hope to continue that trend."

As evidence, Owens pointed to Burson's attempt to quantify intangible company assets - such as CEO and corporate reputation - as examples of innovative IR techniques.

"Such intangible assets are clear drivers of shareholder value,

said Owens. "These strategies are now part of the action plan we offer to IR clients."

Owens said he is still assessing the needs of his new department, but added that he was pleased with the operation he inherited, and does not plan any major changes.

Previous to his Thomson stint, Owens was MD for Georgeson & Co.'s investor relations consulting group, which was acquired by Thomson.

Owens' past clients have included ABB, Ahold, Boeing, Campbell's Soup, Daimler-Chrysler, Fortis, Lafarge, Natuzzi, Signet, and TRW.
