LAST CALL: Liza's in relatively tough PR position

March brought Liza Minelli's wedding. April, however, is raining PR scandal on her head.

March brought Liza Minelli's wedding. April, however, is raining PR scandal on her head.

The chanteuse has been sued by her 94-year-old stepmother, Lee Minelli, on charges that Liza is evicting Lee from her home and refusing to pay bills as mandated by the will of Liza's father.

As with most juicy celeb suits, the media has latched on. Thesmokinggun.com even posted a copy of the legal doc.

But while Liza has the venerable Warren Cowan to tell her side of the story (Liza is willing to buy stepmom a new condo), Lee must do without such sage PR advice. Her lawyer, Tamara Green, is handling press by herself, one phone call at a time. "If I had known it was going to break internationally, I'd have done it differently,

laments Green.

Still, she may have more media savvy than she thinks. Over the weekend, the five-foot, 88-pound Lee Minelli ambled to the gates of her soon-to-be ex-home to have her pictures taken.

Cute old lady on the streets? Cut bait, Liza. It's a PR no-win.
