LONDON: Edelman rolled out part of its European expansion plans last week, deploying a new senior executive to Brussels and establishing a Frankfurt branch of subsidiary agency First & 42nd."There is a lot of change coming through Europe,
said Alison Canning, president of Edelman's international operations. "It's our second-biggest region, and it's one we've got to get right."
The moves insert Charlotte Lester, founder of First & 42nd's office in Mumbai, India, as MD of Edelman Brussels. Her appointment will allow Brussels chair Eric Vaes to focus on bolstering the firm's European public affairs offerings, which have been without a practice leader.
In Germany, Volker Klenk has been brought in to replace Eduard Weber-Bemnet as CEO. On November 1, he will begin splitting duties with Stephan Hoursch, who last teamed with Klenk to head Cohn & Wolfe's efforts in the country.
Klenk's responsibilities include launching the First & 42nd satellite, which represents the consultancy's first foray onto the continent. Canning indicated that additional First & 42nd outposts are being considered for France, Sweden, and Belgium.
"Our strength in Germany has been in consumer, technology, and healthcare,
she explained. "We're introducing the consulting brand there because we need a bigger presence in corporate and financial."
