HOLLYWOOD: The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has appointed Keith Karpe as its new national executive for communications.

Karpe will oversee both internal and external affairs for the labor organization that represents most of Hollywood's top directors. He will also be in charge of DGA publications, including the bimonthly DGA Magazine.

Karpe was most recently in charge of communications for Southern California-based Fortune 500 company Fluor, an international developer of power plants and engineering projects. He recently got a taste of crisis communications at that post when three Fluor executives were visiting the World Trade Center on September 11. The trio escaped injury. Fluor also came under mild media scrutiny for projects with the Binladen family.

Karpe has also held senior positions with Sanwa Bank and corporate and IR specialists Pondel Parsons and Wilkinson.
