WASHINGTON: Porter Novelli has closed its convergence practice in DC, moving remaining client Nextel to its Boston office.

Steve Jursa, senior partner and team leader for the convergence practice, said the DC office is "in a hiatus

until the business picks up. Any other tech clients, such as BBB Online (Better Business Bureau) and the Smart Card Alliance, have been absorbed into the public affairs practice.

Over the past 18 months, PN's tech practice has dwindled from eight or nine people, and those who left were not replaced. Jursa said that Fran Lowe, who was head of the DC tech practice, is in discussion with the firm to find another spot. She moved from PN's San Francisco office last year to run the DC tech practice.

According to Jursa, the "Central Eastern Seaboard

will be monitored by the Boston, New York, and Atlanta offices.
