I work for JohnsonWaterhouse Public Relations in Chattanooga, TN.When I graduated from Murray State University in May 2000, I knew I could look anywhere for a PR job. But I also knew several recent PR graduates working odd jobs or retail because they could not break into the business.
I was determined to do better, so I attended a PRSA conference in Chattanooga the spring before I graduated.
While I was there, I thrust my portfolio into the hands of an account exec from JohnsonWaterhouse who said they had no openings. But that didn't stop me, and a few months later JohnsonWaterhouse called me in for an interview. I was hired as an assistant account executive that July. In January 2002, I was promoted to account executive.
My hard work and determination have totally paid off. Not only am I working in my field, I am working for the most respected PR agency in Chattanooga as it continues to gain regional and national clients. The team we have at JohnsonWaterhouse is professional, polished, and just a little bit crazy - all of which, in my opinion, make working in this field very rewarding.
