HONG KONG: Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank, has appointed Maeve Gallagher to the new post of director and head of corporate communications, Asia-Pacific.

Gallagher joins from JP Morgan Chase Hong Kong, where she was regional head of corporate marketing and communications. She will remain in Hong Kong, and will oversee a range of communications activities to build on Barclays Capital's recent growth in the region.

Gallagher will report to John Anderson, Barclays Capital global head of corporate communications. Her role will extend across all elements of marketing and communications, including media relations, internal communications, and ads.

Anderson and Gallagher previously worked together when he was head of communications for Europe and Asia at Chase Manhattan, which later merged with JP Morgan.

"Her strengths are her familiarity with investment banking products and her connection with journalists in the region. Asia is different from any other region, as it has so many different cultures, and you need someone with a truly global view of things, which is something Maeve has,

Anderson said.

The bank has about 1,000 staff in Asia, but just three communications employees based in Hong Kong and Tokyo. They will now report to Gallagher.
