A PR class at Texas Christian University (TCU), home of the purple-and-white-wearing Horned Frogs, took it upon themselves to get out the vote in M&M's color-that-candy contest. Through May 31, all can vote on whether M&M's adds purple, pink, or aqua to its brown bags.Dr. Maggie Thomas decided to get a little publicity for TCU and teach her advertising/PR class a thing or two about campaigns. after Prince's oh-so-'80s hit, the students sent purple M&M baskets to the local press and sought help from 30 other schools with purple uniforms.
No one has organized to support aqua, but purple faces a foe in pink, thanks to a viral e-mail push among gays and lesbians.
We only hope M&M's does not try any other Prince color schemes. Painting little paisleys on M&M's can't be easy.
