MOSCOW: For the first time in Russian history, private PR companies will help prepare for a national population census. The Moscow-based Centre for Political Technologies has just completed an investigation into the optimum use of national information resources for the approaching census. The study recommends using the media at national and regional levels to publicize census information.
Over the past 50 years, population censuses in Russia have been carried out at intervals of about 15 years. The last one was held while Russia was still part of the Soviet Union.
An article in CDI (Center for Defense Information) Russia Weekly, read, "The necessity of holding a census of the Russian population appeared a long time ago. Indeed, the exact number of the Russian population is unknown. We often say that (it is) reducing, but nobody knows to what extent this is serious."
