WASHINGTON: The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) has appointed a new director of communications after a nearly year-long search.Jubi Headley, former director of public affairs with the US Conference of Mayors (USCM), has been chosen for the role vacated last summer by David Elliot. Headley spent six years at the USCM, which helps American cities with populations of more than 30,000 gays and lesbians lobby for greater funding and recognition.
Elliot now works for the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
Attracted to the NGLTF by what he calls its "diverse agenda,
Headley plans to expand the group's reach. "The Task Force has some wonderful products,
he said, citing the myriad reports it publishes on how different issues impact the gay and lesbian communities. "They need to be promoted within the larger community."
