DOWNERS GROVE, IL: Spiegel Catalog, a subsidiary of the Spiegel Group, has hired CKPR as its PR agency of record. The account is likely to generate six figures a year in fees.
CKPR won the business because Spiegel had worked with Cramer-Krasselt on its advertising. "I wanted someone who understood the Spiegel story," said Brad Matson, SVP of advertising and brand communications with Spiegel.
Matson didn't consider other agencies.
CKPR was created last year by Cramer-Krasselt. Peter Krivkovich serves as president of both firms. The agency plans to put four to five people on the account.
"We've got to get the Spiegel story out there and get noticed more," Matson explained. "We have got to get product placements in fashion and shelter magazines."
Spiegel markets the Clifford & Wills private label brand of clothing and the Clean Country line of home-decor items.
CKPR has done employee relations work for Spiegel in the past, as well as promoted its advertising and website.
Spiegel Catalog's parent, the Spiegel Group, recently reported sales of $167 million for the four weeks that ended April 27, a 19% drop from the $205.4 million sold in the same period last year. Sales for Spiegel Catalog dropped 27% in the period, a decline the company attributed to its tightening credit policies.
