CAREERS: My Big Break

I completed my college degree in broadcasting and thoroughly enjoyed the coursework and experience. However, after an internship at a local TV station, I wasn't sure I wanted to pursue a broadcasting career.

I completed my college degree in broadcasting and thoroughly enjoyed the coursework and experience. However, after an internship at a local TV station, I wasn't sure I wanted to pursue a broadcasting career.

A friend of mine had been interning at a mid-size PR/ad agency in town and was offered an interview with the company. She wanted out of town, so she passed the opportunity to me.

I went to the interview and, before I knew it, I was hired as an AE and began handling a variety of travel and tourism clients. I loved it. The best part was the incredible people I met while working there, two of whom are now my friends and current employers, Kevin and Maria Hayworth.

After two-and-a-half years at the firm, I moved over to Florida's state tourism office where Maria was already working as the head of the PR department.

I worked with Maria for a couple of years and formed a great working and personal relationship with her. When she and her husband, Kevin, decided to start their own agency, I luckily had the chance to join them.

The experience has been great and has taught me how important every relationship is - not just with the media, but with colleagues and employers too. You never know what those relationships can lead to!
