LOS ANGELES: Talent broker William Morris Agency has lost its top PR person.
Don DeMesquita, who has held the post of SVP, worldwide PR for four years, left the Hollywood agency last week. No replacement has been named, but industry insiders say William Morris is looking to fill the spot.
Before joining William Morris, DeMesquita served as VP and COO at The Lippin Group. He also served 10 years at Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he oversaw all publicity for the studio. Prior to that, DeMesquita was the managing television executive at Rogers & Cowan.
"Don is a master of this business, and represents the very best of our profession, said David Lux, communications head at ICM, one of Hollywood's other big talent agencies.
The post of PR head at a talent agency is considered one of Hollywood's toughest PR jobs, and only about a dozen people have ever held the title.
It involves not only handling press for the dozens of deals that are brokered each day, but also managing the often-overblown egos of hundreds of agents whose business depends on their reputation and profile.
Industry sources said that William Morris, one of Hollywood's oldest talent agencies, is trying to revamp its image as younger and hipper, and may choose a future PR head who fits with that persona.
DeMesquita said in a statement that his future plans are undetermined.
