SAN FRANCISCO: Stephen Jones is joining Ogilvy PR as cohead of the firm's global technology practice, branded Alexander Ogilvy. He will report to CEO Bob Seltzer, and Sandra Moreland will continue as the practice's cohead.
Jones is winding up his role with Ketchum, where he was associate director of the global technology practice. "It's a tremendous opportunity to take a strong practice with strong relationships, and build it, he said.
Ketchum has lost a few other senior staffers in the past six months.
Dave Samson, managing director of the firm's San Francisco office, left in March for a job as Oracle's VP of international PR. Mary Hancock, formerly SVP, left when the company lost the Intuit account that she was managing.
Doug Kinzley, Ketchum's San Francisco managing director, says that although the firm takes the impact of senior-level departures seriously, he is confident in the firm's continuing ability to service clients "because of the bench strength that we have."
Kinzley has been interviewing candidates for Jones' replacement, and hopes to make an announcement soon.
Jones, who starts his new job July 15, will also become client-service leader for the Sun Microsystems account, Ogilvy's biggest piece of business.
He has worked with Sun before, when he held positions at Burson-Marsteller, Shandwick/Hi-Tech, and also at Ketchum.
