NEW YORK: The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) has hired Edelman to lead PR efforts as it looks to revitalize the part of Manhattan most affected by the World Trade Center's destruction.
This was one of the most highly contested RFPs of the year, as more than 70 pitches were considered. The other finalist was Burson-Marsteller.
The city is currently estimating the budget for the two-year project at $2 million. The money will come from federal disaster relief funds.
The city says the goal of the LMDC communications effort will be to create one source where people can get information about redevelopment effort in lower Manhattan. It will be no small task given the vast and varied constituencies such an effort will be expected to serve, including residents, merchants, the media, tourists, and the families of the disaster victims.
