Worldcom is doing just fine, thanks. No, not WorldCom. PR agency network Worldcom Public Relations Group (no uppercase C for this one) is keen to let clients and prospects know that it has no connection to the scandal-plagued telecom company.
Confusion started long before WorldCom's ills were known. "Previously we had questions about phone bills, explains Cathy Dunkin, the network's America's region chair. "In the past few weeks, it's been concern about whether we are connected with them, and is the company alright."
The network issued a press release to clarify the distinction, and some member agencies have sent letters to clients about the possible confusion.
A few news organizations, including CNNfn and the LA Times, have picked up the story. Let's hope they get the C right.
